YLKI Gives Notes On Cases Of Forgery Of Drinking Water In Packages Of Le Minerale In Bekasi

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI) provided notes on the recent case of counterfeiting drinking water in a gallon package of the Le Minerale brand that occurred in Bekasi Regency, West Java.

His party advised the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) or the Health Office to tighten supervision of refilled water business standards.

"It is necessary to supervise the Health Office to ensure that the refill business is in accordance with applicable standards and is safe for consumer consumption," said YLKI Secretary General Rio Priambodo to VOI, Sunday, May 25.

In addition, YLKI encourages the involvement of drinking water depot associations to educate novice business actors so as not to violate the rules.

"Association needs to assist novice refilling business actors to educate on good and standard water production," Rio continued.

YLKI also asks all business actors to refill bottled drinking water so that it has good intentions while doing business and does not harm consumers. "Not only seeking profit but it needs to prioritize consumer rights," said Rio.

Bekasi Metro Police has arrested a case of counterfeiting drinking water in a gallon of Le Minerale brand with the initials SST, which is the owner of the Air Wijaya Tirta Depot, having his address at Burangkeng Village, Setu District, Bekasi Regency, on Friday, May 23.

Bekasi Metro Police Chief Commissioner Mustofa said the SST suspect had been counterfeiting this gallon for two years and had made a profit of up to Rp. 70 million.

In a day, the suspect can produce and distribute up to 50 gallons of fake Le Minerale water to various stalls in the Bekasi Regency area.

The water used by the perpetrators to fill the fake gallon and came from unlicensed wells and was only filtered in makeshift. The gallon packaging, seal, and fake label used by SST were purchased online.
