JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 H/2025 AD, the Department of Food Agriculture and Fisheries (DP3) of Sleman Regency formed a special team to oversee the health and feasibility of sacrificial animals in the area.

This team is tasked with conducting a thorough check of the physical condition of the sacrificial animal in order to ensure the safety of the meat that will be consumed by the community.

The head of the Sleman DP3, Rofiq Andriyanto, said that inspections were carried out at various strategic points such as the animal market, cages belonging to livestock groups, and stalls selling sacrificial animals that appeared during the Eid al-Adha season.

"Every year we carry out regular monitoring, and so far no cows have been found to be rejected because of infectious animal diseases such as BETraks," he said in Sleman, as quoted by ANTARA.

However, after the imaging cases that appeared in the Gayamharjo area, Prambanan in 2024, supervision of livestock was tightened. This step was taken to prevent potential transmission of diseases that endanger not only animals but also humans, especially ahead of the time of slaughtering the qurban.

As part of the control, the Sleman DP3 has carried out vaccinations for livestock in affected areas, including Gayamharjo. Other diseases that are often found during examination include conjunctivitis, pink eye, ORF, scibies, and wounds due to the transportation process.

In addition to monitoring animal health, the Sleman DP3 also regulates the implementation of sacrificial slaughter. They coordinate with all monitoring and supervisory officers at various points in Sleman, including compiling data on the number of cutting locations and providing official assignment letters.

"We have also socialized animal inspection and monitoring standards to our officers in 17 locations, as well as established checkpoints in the arriving market to issue an animal health certificate," explained Rofiq.

Monitoring of the process of slaughtering sacrificial animals is scheduled to take place from 10 to 12 Dzulhijjah 1446 H, to coincide with 6 to 8 June 2025.
