Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto said the government would immediately build permanent housing for male Lewotobi Mountain refugees.

The construction was carried out in Nobo Leto, one of the villages in Ile Boleng District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"In the meeting, we also agreed that one permanent residential point in Nobo Leto and the community was clear. After this meeting, each party immediately started working on it," said Suharyanto, after attending a coordination meeting on disaster emergency management in NTT, which was held in Kupang, Thursday, May 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

The coordination meeting for disaster emergency handling is more focused on the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Men.

Suharyanto, who was accompanied by the Governor of NTT Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena and a number of other relevant officials, said that the status of Mount Lewotobi Male volcanic activity has continued to vary, but has never dropped from level 2 since the eruption occurred six months ago.

In fact, since May 18, 2025, it has moved up to level IV (Awas) because magmatic activity is still ongoing.

"Looking at the activity of this mountain, there is no other way, the people around Mount Lewotobi Male at a radius of 7 kilometers at least, all of them must be evacuated. This is the process that is ongoing, since the major eruption 6 months ago, all left the location, some were still at the evacuation site, some were already in the shelter. and some have fled independently," he said.

The BNPB version, currently the number of refugees who are still in the Titehena sub-district field post (poslap), is recorded as many as 411 families or 1,338 people. Consisting of 192 families (659 people) at the Konga post, 40 families (126 people) at the Kobasoma post, 130 families (389 people) at the Bokang post, and 49 families (164 people) at the Lewolaga post.

Meanwhile, the number of independent refugees was recorded as many as 754 families or 2,771 people, spread in Wulangangangang District, Larantuka, Ile Bura, Ile Mandiri, Titehena, Lewolema, Demon Pangong, Pulau Adonara, Tanjung Bunga and Solor Island.

So far, the collaboration between the central government, provinces and East Flores Regency in handling refugees is to provide temporary housing (huntara) and two units are available.

The shelters built in the two stages reached 90 Kopel or 450 housing units and were occupied by 450 families, which spread in Dulipali Village (114 units), Nawokote (101 units), Klatanlo (86 units) and Boru Village 149 units.

The shelter has been supported by drilling well facilities and electrical installations.

"These steps between the central government, province and East Flores Regency in an integrated manner, continue to run and thank God, in these 5 months there has been progress. There have been 2 shelter units that have been completed and inhabited by the community. Now it has entered stage 3. Independent relocation, the house is also there," he said.

Meanwhile, NTT Governor Melkides Laka Lena stated that his party had supported the disaster management process from the start.

"We have provided financial support for the East Flores Regency government, especially for the purchase of facilities and logistics. We also continue to coordinate and encourage the acceleration of development at the district level," said Melki.
