JAKARTA - Indonesia has asked the United Nations Security Council (UN) to take firm action to stop Israel's atrocities, following the country's military decision to increase its military operations in the Gaza Strip region, Palestine.

The military on Friday announced the start of an intensified military campaign called the " Gideon War Train Operation". One of the impacts of the attack was a fire at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza on Monday night.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the attacks that continue to be carried out by Israel throughout the Gaza Strip, including against Indonesian Hospitals in North Gaza," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on social media X, as quoted Tuesday, May 20.

"Israel's attack on civilian facilities constitutes a gross violation of international law, international humanitarian law and human rights," the ministry continued.

The Israeli military attacked an Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza late Monday, targeting its electric generators and setting off a massive fire, medical sources told Anadolu.

The airstrike took place amid a siege by Israeli forces at the facility as part of Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Director General of the Ministry of Health Gaza Munir al-Bursh told Anadolu the hospital lost electricity after the attack.

He said the facility accommodates patients and injured people who are being treated. He warned that the generator bombing was a serious threat to their lives.

Al-Bursh accused Israel of ignoring international health systems and humanitarian law, saying the military was continuing to target medical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Gaza's Civil Defense reported receiving an emergency call from hospital administrators about the fire that broke out in external generators and spread to parts of the facility.

The agency said its team was trying to coordinate access to hospitals to extinguish the fire amid worsening security conditions in the area.

"Indonesia urges the UN Security Council and the international community to take firm action to enforce international law and stop Israel's atrocities," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted.

"The permanent ceasefire and the widest possible access to humanitarian aid must be realized immediately," the ministry added.

Israeli soldiers have repeatedly targeted hospitals and health care systems since launching their attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, leaving most facilities off, according to Palestinian and UN reports.

Of the 38 hospitals in Gaza, only 19 are still operating, although some, including eight public hospitals and 11 private hospitals, Gaza's Ministry of Health said. In addition, nine field hospitals provide emergency services amid the destruction of Israel.
