BATAM - The Batam TPI Special Class I Immigration Office together with the Riau Islands Regional Police (Kepri Police) held a Joint Operation Wira Alert and secured 23 foreign nationals (WNA) who violated immigration regulations.
Head of the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Batam Hajar Aswad conveyed that violations found in April to May 2025 included misuse of residence permits, overstays, entry without immigration checks, and disturbing public order.
"First, we secure two Chinese nationals who live in an inn in the Batam Center area. They misuse their residence permit by working without valid permits and have been overstayed for 14 days," Hajar said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 15.
Batam Immigration is currently still investigating the case, including tracing the agents or sponsors of the two foreigners.
Furthermore, as many as 17 Myanmar citizens were secured from an inn in Batam Center for exceeding the residence permit.
"On average there are overstays for 40 days, some 50 days, some 126 days and some even 169 days," he said.
They are known to be migrant workers who will be dispatched to Singapore and coordinated by a Myanmar citizen with the initials TS.
"TS is an asylum seeker or asylum seeker. Because of its status, we will coordinate with the Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Center for further action to institutions such as UNHCR. Meanwhile, 16 other Myanmar foreigners will be deported," he explained.
One Canadian citizen, with the initials WN, was also handled in the operation because it was considered disturbing public order around the OS Hotel area.
"Because it is suspected of having a mental disorder, the person concerned cannot be presented at this time. However, we will still process it for deportation and deterrence after his condition improves," he added.
The Batam Immigration Office presented 21 detainees at the Wira Alert Joint Operations press conference, consisting of 12 female and 9 male detainees. There are two detainees who cannot attend because they have psychological disorders.
