JAKARTA - The 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference or the Parliamentary Union conference of countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI) held by the DPR discussed a number of issues. Apart from the Palestinian issue, the heating up of the conflict between Pakistan and India is also in the spotlight in PUIC.

The issue of the Pakistan-India conflict was discussed at the 53rd PUIC Executive Committee Session which was held at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 14. This meeting session was chaired by the Chairman of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Mardani Ali Sera.

The 53rd Executive Committee session is part of a series of 19th PUIC Conferences that have started on May 12. In the forum, the parliament of OKI countries strengthened its support for Palestinian independence.

Mardani emphasized the importance of collaboration between parliaments for OIC member countries to face problems with the world's Muslims. Starting from the socio-economic gap, the low quality of human resources, to the increasing number of Islamophobia.

Mardani also called for and strongly condemned Israel's actions that expanded attacks on settlements by illegal means and systematic genocide that occurred in Gaza.

Through the DPR, said Mardani, Indonesia urges all PUIC members to take concrete action through parliamentary diplomacy, humanitarian solidarity, and support for the international legal process.

"We demand accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel, to uphold justice for the Palestinian people," he stressed.

In today's PUOC Executive Committee meeting session, a number of delegates delivered messages and initiatives. Such as the Saudi Arabian delegation expressing support for resolving the Pakistan-India conflict and emphasizing the importance of unity among Muslim countries, given its great strength and potential.

Then the Iranian delegation also expressed approval for all positive initiatives produced by PUIC. Mardani praised the inputs submitted by the delegation.

Mardani emphasized the importance of good governance and strong institutions as the key to the resilience of Muslims facing global challenges. Starting from the principles of justice, trust, and accountability taught in Islam to become the basis for strengthening democracy and cooperation between parliamentary Muslim countries.

"Although most OIC members are developing countries, institutional reform is a crucial step so that the country can transform into a developed country and has the capacity to act collectively," said Mardani.

The event in Indonesia also marks the 25th anniversary of the PUIC commemoration. According to Mardani, the 25th anniversary of PUIC is not just a ceremonial momentum, but a turning point to strengthen commitments in fair governance.

"This includes strengthening institutions, fighting for the aspirations of Muslims, and strengthening the unity of Muslims for a more peaceful and civilized future," explained Mardani.
