Extortion Under The Guise Of Security And Parking, 22 Thugs In CNI Arrested

JAKARTA - The police arrested 22 people who were strongly suspected of being involved in thuggery in the CNI Puri Indah area, Kembangan, West Jakarta. They are said to have come from community organizations (ormas) Grib Jaya, FBR, and Karang Taruna.

"It was found that 22 people carried out acts of thuggery in the form of illegal levies," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi as quoted on Wednesday, May 14.

Their illegal levies (extortion) attracted some money to the swords under the pretext of security, cleanliness, and others.

Not only that, they also withdraw money to visitors under the pretext of parking. The CNI area is known to be a 'night market'.

"There are several pieces of ticket evidence that they printed themselves and then there are recapitulations of the levies, and the results of our dialogue were all with colleagues from street vendors," he said.

When carrying out extortion, they did not want to mention the origin of the organization. However, from the results of the investigation and examination, they are known to come from different mass organizations, namely Grib Jaya, FBR, and Karang Taruna.

"The results of the deepening of our friends from the detective ranks, they came from a mass organization with the initials G, then the second came from a mass organization with the initials F and also some came from Karang Taruna," said Ade.

Actions against thuggery will continue to be carried out in line with the implementation of Operation Against Jaya which will be held from 9 to 23 May 2025.
