PSI Opens Opportunities For Jokowi To Advance As General Chair Through The Grand Election

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) officially opens opportunities for any member to run for PSI General Chair, including the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi.

This issue emerged after PSI Deputy General Chair Andy Budiman's statement at the PSI DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, May 13.

"Will Mr. Jokowi be a candidate? We just pray," Andy Budiman told reporters.

Andy admits that the idea of a "super-open party" which is now PSI's main concept is inspired directly by Jokowi's idea. According to him, President Jokowi is not only an inspiration, but has also long been considered a political mentor for PSI.

"Frankly, we consider Pak Jokowi as a mentor for a long time. So when asked if he was inspired by Pak Jokowi? Yes," said Andy.

Jokowi had previously made the idea of a super open party directly to the media, in a public statement in Solo on March 5, 2025.

PSI then adopted the concept and perfected it in the form of a Grand Election, namely the process of directly selecting the party Chairperson by all members, not only determined by the party elite.

PSI's move has become a breath of fresh air in the world of Indonesian politics, which has been often dominated by the top-down model in party decision making.

If Jokowi really runs or is actively involved in the PSI Grand Election contestation, then this could be a major political maneuver after the end of the presidential term in 2024.
