DPR Be Careful Discussing The RKUHAP To The Election Bill, Puan: If You Are In A Hurry, You Will Not Comply With The Rules Later

Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, ensured that the Indonesian House of Representatives would carefully discuss a number of draft laws (RUU), starting from the Revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (RKUHAP), the Household Workers Protection Bill (PPRT), to the Election Bill. Including the Asset Confiscation Bill which has received President Prabowo Subianto's support for immediate discussion by the government and the DPR.

Puan, the DPR will not rush into discussing the four bills. Because he is worried, if the discussion of the bill is pursued to be immediately ratified into law, it will be prone to violating the rules.

According to the mechanism, said Puan, the Indonesian House of Representatives will complete the RKUHAP first before discussing the Asset Confiscation Bill. Moreover, the Asset Confiscation Bill is not included in the 2025 Priority Prolegnas because it still needs a study or material deepening of the bill.

"Indeed, according to the mechanism, we will discuss the Criminal Procedure Code first. But at first we will not be in a hurry. We will get input from all elements of society first according to the mechanism. How, what is the input, what is the opinion of all elements of society. After that, we will enter the Asset Confiscation Bill," said Puan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 7.

"Because if you are in a hurry, it will not comply with existing regulations. And then it does not comply with the existing mechanism. It will be vulnerable," he continued.

Puan also ensured that the DPR RI would seek input from all elements of the nation when it began to discuss the Asset Confiscation Bill. He stated that the DPR RI supports the eradication of corruption to its roots in accordance with President Prabowo's ideals.

"How next, yes, we will also ask for input from all views," said the first woman who served as Chairman of the DPR RI.

Puan also revealed the development of the discussion of the PPRT Bill which is also President Prabowo's attention to be completed within three months. He said that currently the DPR is still asking for input related to the bill.

"Mulai sidang ini kita sudah mulai melaksanakan RDPU, artinya meminta pendapat masukan dari masyarakat," ungkap Puan.

"So that process is what we did first. How then from all elements of society we ask for their opinions, input, how to meanful participation as much as possible we ask first," he continued.

Puan stated that the Indonesian House of Representatives would ask for input from all parties, including the employers, perpetrators or domestic workers themselves, and recipients of workers. According to him, this step was taken to provide justice for all parties involved in the PPRT Bill.

"And we don't just ask for the perpetrators, but we also ask for the recipients. So there are 3 parties that we have to ask for input, namely the giver, the perpetrator and the recipient. So that there is fairness that we must later provide justice from all parties," explained Puan.

"All three of them we have to ask for input. Now it takes time to ask for their opinion," added the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Regarding the leading sector of the board's equipment (AKD) that will discuss it, Puan said that currently it has not been determined whether the PPRT Bill will be discussed in Baleg or Commission IX of the DPR. What is clear, said Puan, is that this bill has started in stages in order to ask for input from the Legislation Body (Baleg).

"Until now, it is still in Baleg. Later we will see from that input, whether we will discuss this in the commission or in Baleg," said Puan.

Including the discussion of the Election Bill, Puan said, currently the DPR is still looking at the situation on the ground. According to him, the leadership of the DPR is still discussing this matter.

"We are also looking at the situation on the ground. What is the situation on the ground after these days, does it require more discussion, so it needs to be done in the discussion at the Commission, whether it only needs to be discussed in Baleg," said the legislator from the Central Java V electoral district.

"These are the leaders and friends in the DPR discussing this," concluded Puan.
