JAKARTA - European Council President Antonio Costa considers Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be trying to eliminate the possibility of achieving a two-state solution.
In an interview with Spanish broadcast media Cadena SER, Tuesday, May 6, Costa condemned Israel's planned military occupation recently approved in Gaza, calling it a violation of international law.
"Netanyahu is trying to destroy the possibility of the existence of two countries," he said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu.
"Europe must take a firm stance condemning international law violations by Israel, and supporting a two-state solution," he added.
The former Portuguese Prime Minister and first Socialist figure to hold the permanent presidency of the European Council was in Spain on an official visit.
On Monday, Israel's Security Cabinet approved plans to expand its continued military offensive in the Gaza Strip, occupying territory within the Palestinian enclave.
