JAKARTA - As part of efforts to strengthen national food security, the Class II A Penitentiary, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, has again planted rice on an area of 1.5 hectares.

This program not only supports food production, but is also a means of fostering independence for the inmates. The head of the West Lombok Prison, M. Fadli, in his statement in Mataram, Sunday, said that this rice planting is in line with the national food security program listed on the Astacita mission of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We have again prepared 1.5 hectares of Assimilation and Educational Facilities (SAE), which we had previously harvested, to be immediately planted with rice again," said Fadli.

He also reminded all levels of work activities to continue to maintain high enthusiasm in carrying out this program, considering the close relationship between food security and the development of the independence of the inmates.

"With the previous harvest which is very satisfying, we hope that this activity can be a motivation to be more productive and increase the harvest in the future," he added.

Seeing the potential for land owned, Fadli is optimistic that this agricultural program can continue and grow. He revealed that most of the SAE land in West Lombok Prison is included in the category of technical irrigation fields, which allow rice planting up to three times a year.

In addition to planting, the prison also provides technical assistance to inmates, including education about effective planting methods so that the harvest is more optimal.
