JAKARTA - The United States has reduced the estimated cost of aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022 to around US$100 billion from US$300 billion.

Bloomberg News reports this information citing people familiar with the matter.

US President Donald Trump is working on a bilateral mineral deal as part of a peace effort to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

Trump also sees it as a way to get back the billions of dollars spent on military aid to Kyiv, although the aid is not a loan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said talks with the US about mineral deals were "positive" with more gatherings expected.

The White House did not immediately respond to a response request from Reuters.

Last month, the Trump administration proposed a wider new mineral deal with Ukraine, which does not provide Ukraine with future security guarantees but requires it to place all revenue from exploitation of natural resources by state and private companies across Ukraine in joint investment funds.
