JAKARTA - The phenomenon of illegal racing which is increasingly worrying at a number of points in Banyuwangi encourages police to take proactive steps.
As a safer and more organized alternative, the Banyuwangi Police held the 2025 East Java Drag Bike Provincial Championship (Kejurprov) by competing for the Banyuwangi Police Chief Cup.
The Head of Banyuwangi Police, Kombes Pol Rama Samtama Putra, explained that this event was an effort to provide positive space for speed lovers, as well as reduce illegal racing actions that endanger other road users.
"Through this Drag Bike Champion, we want to provide an official and legal platform for the dragrs to show their abilities. The goal is that no one will race carelessly on public roads anymore," he explained.
The championship which took place on Jalan Wiroguno, Dasri Village, Tegalsari District, was attended by hundreds of motorcycle racers from various districts and cities in East Java. There are 23 classes that are competed, ranging from 125 cc to 300 cc engines.

"We hope that through this event there will be potential racers from Banyuwangi who will be able to compete at the national level," added Rama.
The Deputy Regent of Banyuwangi, Mujiono, also appreciated the holding of this event. He assessed that the drag bike has great potential to be developed as part of a sport tourism that is able to attract tourists.
"Events like this, apart from honing the talents of young people, can also drive the local economy through automotive sports-based tourism," said Mujiono.
Furthermore, the local government is reviewing the construction of permanent circuits which can later be used for various motorcycle racing branches, including motocross and road race.
