JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded as many as 637,292 incoming calls to Jakarta Siaga 112 services throughout 2024.
Jakarta Alert 112 is an emergency call service for the DKI Provincial Government to provide a quick response to emergency situations, such as natural disasters and other crisis conditions.
However, not all calls that enter the 112 phone number are emergency situations. Recorded as many as 114,863 calls are prank or prank calls.
Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) Mohamad Yohan explained the reason why many prank calls to the Jakarta Siaga 112 service could occur.
"Because 112 services are credit-free. Even without a SIM card, as long as the cellphone is in position, you can still contact 112," Yohan told reporters, Monday, March 17.
Although not followed up, Yohan regretted the many prank calls that were included in the Jakarta Alert service.
"Prank calls are not continued, but the duration of time is wasted and sorry for those who queue to be served by call center 112," said Yohan.
On that occasion, Yohan appealed to the public to be wiser in contacting Jakarta Alert 112. Because, what is really needed can be hampered because of the fad phone action.
"It also takes the role of parents to oversee the use of their children's cellphones, because they often have prank calls for minors, even toddlers," explained Yohan.
