French President Emmanuel Macron urged Russia to accept the US-backed 30-day ceasefire proposal in Ukraine.

"Russia must now accept the US-Ukraine proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Russian aggression in Ukraine must end," Macron wrote on social media X, after speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Macron reiterated the need to stop atrocities and long-winded statements.

"Tomorrow, we will continue to work to strengthen support for Ukraine and lasting and sustainable peace through video conferencing with Starmer, Zelenskyy, and other partners," he continued.

Ukraine has backed a ceasefire proposal with Russia, which was agreed after talks with US officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he supported the ceasefire in principle but wanted the root cause of the conflict to be resolved.
