Aceh Youth Carrying Methamphetamine Destination Lombok Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison At The Medan District Court

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced a young man from Aceh Khairul Munanda Bin Mansyur (24 who was proven to have brought 3.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"The defendant Khairul Munanda bin Mansyur was sentenced to 16 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to three months in prison," said Chief Judge As'ad Rahim Lubis at the Medan District Court, Wednesday, March 12, as reported by ANTARA.

The judge stated that the defendant Khairul's actions were proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics as the primary indictment.

The defendant Khairul's actions were burdensome because he did not support the government's program to eradicate narcotics.

"Meanwhile, mitigating factors, the defendant was polite during the trial and admitted his actions," said Judge As'ad.

After reading the verdict, Chief Judge As'ad Rahim Lubis gave the defendant Khairul and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office to file an appeal.

"Given seven days to state whether to appeal or accept this verdict," said Judge As'ad Rahim.

The verdict was lighter than the demands of the North Sumatra Attorney General's Office, Erning Kosasih, who previously demanded that the defendant Khairul be sentenced to 17 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison.

Public Prosecutor Erning in his indictment stated that the defendant Khairul was arrested by police officers from the North Sumatra Police at the toll gate of the Sei Semayang Toll Substation II exit, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency on August 2, 2024.

"The defendant was arrested on information from the public for carrying methamphetamine from Aceh to Lombok," he said.

The methamphetamine, he continued, was planned to be brought by the defendant Khairul by airplane via Kualanamu Deli Serdang International Airport.

From the arrest, the North Sumatra Police team secured evidence of 3.2 kilograms of methamphetamine.

"When interrogated, the defendant admitted to getting a salary of Rp. 4 million if he succeeded in handing over the methamphetamine to his customer," said Public Prosecutor Erning.
