BMKG Calls The March 2025 Full Moon Phenomenon Triggers Floods On The Coast Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed theselamat Moon phenomenon in March which coincided with the phase of perigee moon and lunar eclipse in the north-south part of the earth, which is predicted to trigger flooding in the coastal area of Indonesia.

BMKG's Director of Maritime Meteorology, Eko Prasetyo, said that the full moon phenomenon and the perigee moon phase are predicted to take place on March 14 and 29, 2025, which has the potential to increase the maximum sea level in Indonesia.

The BMKG found that based on field data, sea level and tidal predictions, coastal flooding (rob) could potentially occur in Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan to Maluku.

"The potential for coastal flooding, which generally has an impact on the activities of coastal communities, such as loading and unloading at ports, activities in coastal settlements to land and salt fisheries ponds," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 12, was confiscated by Antara.

BMKG maps areas that have the potential to be hit by coastal flooding, including on the coast of North Sumatra (Belawan), coastal Riau Islands (Batam, Dabo Singkep, Karimun, Bintan, Tanjung Pinang), coastal West Sumatra (Kota Padang, Padang Pariaman, Pariaman, Painan), coastal Jambi (South Berhala), coastal Lampung (Talung Airport).

Coastal Banten (North Tangerang, West Sunda Strait Pandeglang, south of Pandeglang, southern Lebak), coastal Jakarta (Kemal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Pluit, Ancol, Marunda, Cilincing, Tanjung Priok, and Kalibaru North Jakarta), West Java (Pesisir Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, Indramayu, CIrebon), coastal Central Java (Semarang, Demak, Pekalongan, Brebes, Tegal, Pemalang), coastal of East Kalimantan (West Balikpapan, East Balikpapan).

South Kalimantan (Kotabaru Waters, Muara Sungai Barito), coastal Central Kalimantan (south West Kotawaringin), West Kalimantan (Pontianak), coastal North Sulawesi (North Sulawesi north, northern Sangihe Islands, East Sangihe, north Talaud, east Talaud), Maluku coast (Central Maluku, Saumlaki, Kai, Aru, East Seram, Ambon) coastal North Maluku (Morotai, Tobelo, Loloda, Wasile, Patani, and Gabe).
