JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding met with the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafidz. The two discussed the protection of migrant workers through social media.

The meeting of the two state officials took place at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kondigi), Friday, March 7, 2025.

In his submission, Karding said that many migrant workers were victims of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO). The reason is because they are tempted by the lure of advertising on social media about how easy it is to work abroad.

In addition, the lack of public understanding of the procedure to go properly is also one of the causes. Currently, the number of public understanding to depart for the procedure has only reached 40 percent.

"We need support from many parties to build public awareness," Karding told reporters, Friday, March 7.

With this meeting, Karding hopes to work together with Komdigi, especially regarding the massive digital campaign for Indonesian migrant workers who go to work abroad.

Campaigns can be spread through digital dissemination through the media owned by Komdigi such as Antara, TVRI and RRI. The goal is that all migrant workers depart legally and procedurally and avoid cloves.

"Hopefully, we can work together in the future. Moreover, Komdigi has infrastructure and resources," continued the politician from the National Awakening Party.

As the second largest contributor to foreign exchange, migrant workers, said Karding, must always receive protection. Starting from before departure, during placement, to post-placement, which includes social, legal and economic protection.

Therefore, Karding also encourages the integration of data from the Ministry of Trade in the form of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Meanwhile, Minister of Trade Meutya Hafidz welcomed the presence of Minister Karding to his office, including the establishment of the Cyber Directorate at the Ministry of P2MI.

For Meutya, this formation further facilitates the supervisory function of digital space from its ministry, especially regarding the color protection of Indonesian countries, especially migrant workers.

"Especially those who departed illegally through services that have recently been advertised on social media. This is our common domain, as mandated by President Prabowo to continue to do his best to protect our society. For supervision in the digital space, especially related to migrant workers, we agreed to improve together," said Meutya.
