TNI-Polri Personnel Sita 1,500 Arrow Children From Residents In Puncak Jaya

JAYAPURA - Head of Puncak Jaya Police AKBP Kuswara said the joint personnel of the TNI-Polri conducted raids and confiscated 1,500 arrows along with 160 arcs from residents in Mulia, Puncak Jaya, Central Papua.

"The confiscated traditional sharp weapons are to avoid another attack between the masses of the two supporters of the candidate pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Puncak Jaya," said Chief of Police Puncak Jaya AKBP Kuswara as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, March 6.

Kuswara said patrols were carried out on foot along every corner of the city to ensure that no more people carried sharp weapons that could be used when attacking each other.

"While patrolling, members also asked the public not to carry arrows anymore and if they were still carrying weapons of war and so on they would be confiscated immediately," said AKBP Kuswara.

"As a result of attacking each other between the two groups of supporters of the candidate pair resulted in the loss of life and property, so it is hoped that this will not happen again," he continued.

Currently thousands of arrows and their bows are secured at the Puncak Jaya Police Headquarters in Mulia.

The dispute between supporters of the candidate pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Puncak Jaya related to the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada has occurred since the beginning of last February, causing three people to die, 178 people were injured and 88 houses burned.

The regional elections in Puncak Jaya Regency were attended by two pairs of candidates for regent and deputy regent, namely the Yuni Wonda-Mus Kogoya pair and the Miren Kogoya-Wendi pair.

Makhamah Konstitution in its decision ordered a recapitulation of vote count in 22 districts without including four districts that were not recapitulated for re-voting, namely Mulia District, Lumo District, Tingginambut District, and Gurage District.
