Maqdir Ismail Denies His Proposal On Detention Before The Court Was Revised By The Criminal Procedure Code For Akomodir Hasto

JAKARTA - Lawyer Maqdir Ismail denied that his proposal regarding the detention of suspects was not carried out before a court decision was made in the preparation of the Draft Criminal Procedure Code or the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code to accommodate the interests of the Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto.

It is known that Maqdir is currently the attorney for Hasto who was detained by the KPK after being officially named a suspect in the bribery case of Harun Masiku. However, Hasto considered that the detention of Hasto was a form of legal criminalization.

"No, it's not like that. Because I talk about this very often, and I have said a lot about this issue," said Maqdir at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, March 5.

"It's Mas Hasto's business, especially since we think there is criminalization. This criminalization should also not be detained. To prove that there is no criminalization, people like Mas Hasto should not be detained," he continued.

Moreover, continued Maqdir, the process of determining Hasto as a suspect coincided with the dismissal of former Indonesian President Joko Widodo along with Indonesian Vice President Gibran. Rakabuming Raka and his son-in-law Bobby Nasution as PDIP cadres.

"Because after all, the process of determining the suspect coincided with the incident when Joko Widodo was dismissed, then Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and also Bobby Nasution as a member of the PDIP. Three days later, a few days later he was named a suspect, and I think this is something that should not be done," explained Maqdir.

Maqdir then revealed the reason why Hasto should not have been detained. First, one day after the dismissal of Jokowi's family, suddenly there was a layer that had been committed by Hasto.

"Well, this is something that shouldn't happen," he said.

However, once again Maqdir emphasized that the proposal was not related to Hasto. However, it is more about human rights to get the opportunity to provide evidence before the court.

"No, it has nothing to do with Mas Hasto. There is nothing to do with Mas Hasto. But this is his business with humanity. That's the first thing," said Maqdir.

"Then the second, what we can see now, so many people are serving sentences or detentions. So that our LP, even the detention houses are so full. So that this is not done, there will continue to be detentions like this, so in my opinion, that's what I said earlier, detention must be carried out when people are serving their sentences. So it's not in the process when after being named a suspect," he concluded.
