Reclamation Regulations Are Investigating, The Waste Island Project In Jakarta Will Take Long Roads

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency (LH) Asep Kuswanto revealed the continuation of the island development plan to manage Jakarta's waste, which was discussed by the former Acting Governor of DKI Heru Budi Hartono.

The plan to build a waste island was again mentioned by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno. Rano did not rule out the possibility that the waste island would be realized during his leadership with DKI Governor Pramono Anung.

Asep said that the DKI Provincial Government has not been able to start planning the construction of the waste island. This project still needs a long way to go to be realized. This is because the regulatory product regarding reclamation in northern Jakarta is obsolete.

"The regulation on the reclamation and north coast has been from the 80s. So, now DLH will conduct a due diligence study on the regulation. Are the existing regulations still valid or not at this time," Asep told reporters, Friday, February 28.

The Department of Environment has also allocated a budget to review the Jakarta coastal reclamation regulations in the 2025 APBD.

In addition, the Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning and Land Service (Citata) has allocated a budget for the preparation of pre-feasibility studies and the Water Resources (SDA) Office as well as allocating a budget for the preparation of hydrodynamic studies.

From there, the DKI Provincial Government can only determine whether regulations related to reclamation need to be renewed or not. "If it does not apply anymore, whether it is necessary to replace or change the regulations or not," explained Asep.

"So that later on we will begin to conduct a feasibility study (the construction of the garbage island, it is regulated that it has been possible," he continued.

It doesn't stop there. After the regulations are confirmed and the study and determination of the reclamation area has been completed, the DKI Provincial Government will still apply for a permit to build a waste island to the central government.

"It will definitely start with licensing before we find out that we decided to build the garbage island," explained Asep.

So, it is not certain when the implementation of the island construction to manage realized Jakarta waste will be.
