Pramono-Rano Targets All RWs In Jakarta To Have Garbage Banks In The 100 Day Program

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor-Deputy Governor Pramono Anung-Rano Karno targets all RWs in Jakarta to have a waste bank within 100 days of their leadership.

This was revealed by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto. Asep said, of the 2,748 RWs in Jakarta, 840 of them do not yet have a waste bank.

"Our target is that for the next 100 days, 840 RWs that do not have a waste bank, have not yet formed a waste bank, so they are required to form a waste bank," said Asep at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, February 27.

The waste bank program in Jakarta has actually been running for several years. Where, residents who become customers of the waste bank are asked to sort out their respective household waste. Then, the recycled waste that is sorted can be exchanged for money.

However, from the RW-RW that has used a waste bank, not many of its citizens have become customers and run the program to the fullest.

"When it comes to customers, which I have often visited RWs, on average, for example, the maximum is 30-40 percent of the residents in the RW, that is what is indeed a customer of a waste bank," said Asep.

Along with that, the DKI Provincial Government will impose waste levies for residents who have not sorted household waste. On average, waste levies are charged a tariff of IDR 10,000 per month.

However, levies are excluded for people who can sort waste and become waste bank customers. Thus, this retribution is expected to increase public interest in becoming a waste bank customer.

"For people who become waste bank customers, actively depositing their waste 4 times a month, there is no longer a retribution for the community," said Asep.

"So the choice for the community is to do a waste sorting and become a member of a waste bank or pay retribution," he added.

However, the waste retribution, which was originally planned to be implemented on January 1, 2025, has now been postponed. The DKI Provincial Government is still drafting a governor regulation (pergub) as a technical regulation for waste retribution from the legal umbrella of Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2024 concerning Regional Taxes and Regional Retribution.
