Students Can Feel Relieved, Minister Of Education Affirms UKT Will Not Increase

JAKARTA - Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto emphasized that the single tuition fee (UKT) would not increase. Students can breathe a sigh of relief with the affirmation from the minister who has just been appointed by President Prabowo Subianto.

Initially, the Minister of Education and Higher Education explained the agenda of a closed working meeting with Commission X of the DPR. Brian said that apart from introductions, his party also explained the program plan to be carried out by the Ministry of Education and Technology, Saintek, under his command.

"So this is an introductory session, because I was also inducted in a week by the President. So Commission X invited us for an introduction. The point is to make sure the planned programs can run well," said Brian, Wednesday, February 26.

"So we explained earlier our plans to implement programs that have been prepared previously," he continued.

During the meeting, Brian also ensured that the House of Representatives Commission X of the Ministry of Education did not increase UKT. In fact, the budget for tuition assistance and campus operational assistance was not reduced by a penny.

"Of course we also emphasized that again, KIP, scholarships, nothing has decreased in the slightest. That was what we both agreed on and it has been made into like that," said Brian.

"Then we also conveyed that the various operational activities of the campuses did not decrease. So that UKT does not need to be increased, UKT will not increase. That's all," he added.

In addition, Commission X of the DPR also conveyed matters related to improvements and improvements in the implementation of higher education in Indonesia to the Ministry of Education and Technology, Saintek. Likewise with research and innovation that needs to be done, coordination, and more optimized roles.

"Because we know that the APK from our higher education is still low. So actually there is still quite a lot of space, both PTN and PTS, it is to develop together to produce the human resources that are needed," concluded Brian.
