Profile Of Riza Chalid, An Oil Trader Who Was Also Dragged Into The Case Of Alleged Crude Oil Corruption Pertamina

YOGYAKARTA The figure of Riza Chalid is being widely reported in various media in the country after the Attorney General's Office (AGO) revealed a case of alleged corruption in the management of crude oil and refinery products of PT Pertamina, subholding, and cooperation contractors (KKKS) from 2018 to 2023. The following is Riza Chalid's profile and why his name was also highlighted in the vortex of the case.

Riza Chalid's profile is a well-known entrepreneur in the field of oil and gas from Indonesia. He even got the nickname 'Saudgar Oil' or The Gasoline Goods' because he was considered to control the oil business in the country and control the oil import business.

Riza Chalid is the son of the couple Chalid bin Abdat and Siti Hindun bint Ali Alkatiri. He was born in 1960 with the full name Mohammad Riza Chalid.

In 1985, Riza married Roestriana Adrianti who is familiarly called Uchu. Riza and Uchu's approach process is fairly short. Within just three months, Riza proposed to Uchu as his wife.

From this marriage, Riza and Uchu were blessed with two children, namely Muhammad Kerry Adrianto and Kenesa Ilona Rina.

As parents, Riza and Uchu really care about their children's education. This can be seen from the second step in sending their children to United World College South East Asia (UWC SEA) when Indonesia was experiencing a monetary crisis in 1998.

Furthermore, Riza has a classy work in the oil and gas sector. He was noted to have been affiliated with the company Global Resources Energy and Gold juxtapos. In 2008, these two companies became intermediaries for Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Pertal) to buy mixed oil named Zatapi.

However, the career journey of the two companies received a red record because they were involved in the import case of 600 thousand barrels of raw oil from Zatapi by Pertamina. The case has been stopped by the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police because it is considered not detrimental to the state.

In addition, Riza Chalid was also caught in the 'Papa Requests Shares' case involving the then Speaker of the DPR, Setyo Novanto. This case is a controversy over the extension of PT Freeport Indonesia's operating license as a gold mining company in Papua.

Riza Chalid was also trusted to represent PT Dwipangga Sakti Prima, a company owned by the Cendana family, Siti Hutami Endang Adiningsih or Mamiek Suharto and Bambang Trihatmodjo. Riza was asked to buy a Sukhoi plane in Moscow, Russia in 1997.

Furthermore, the Hercules plane purchased by PT Dwipangga Sakti Prima in 1996 also stumbled on a markup case. The plane was purchased at a price of R25 million US dollars but the price was raised to 30 million US dollars.

In the 2014 election, Riza gave political support to the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair. He bought a house in Polonia which was used as the base for the Prabowo-Hatta pair's victory.

In the recording of the 'Papa Asks Shares' case, Riza Chalid admitted that he spent up to Rp500 billion to support Hatta in the 2014 election on the basis of friendship.

Riza Cholid is listed as owning a number of companies, including Supreme Energy, Paramount Petroleum, Straits Oil, and Cosmic Petroleum. All of these companies are based in Singapore.

As an oil tycoon, Riza Chalid's assets are estimated at US$415 million. This makes Riza the 88th richest person in the list of the 150 richest people in the Asian Globe version.

Riza Chalid's name was highlighted because his son, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza (MKAR) as Benefical Owner of PT Navigator Khatuliwa, was one of the suspects in the alleged corruption case of crude oil governance and refinery production within Pertamina and contractors that cost the state Rp193.7 trillion.

In addition, Riza Chalid's adopted son, namely Gading Ramadhan Joedo (GRJ) who is a Commissioner of PT Jenggala Maritime and President Director of PT Orbit Teminal Merak, are also on the list of suspects in the alleged corruption case.

To find out whether Riza Chalid was involved in the case, the AGO searched Riza's house in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

"That's what investigators (Riza Chalid's role) will investigate," said Kapuspenkum at the Harli Siregar AGO at the South Jakarta Attorney General's Office Building, Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

From the search, investigators found a number of pieces of evidence allegedly related to the case.

The evidence confiscated by the AGO from Riza's House was cash amounting to Rp857,528,000, documents, and electronic evidence.
