Pawn Rp 100 Million Rental Car, Police Officer In Riau Arrested

PEKANBARU - A police officer Ipda Dhani Tri Hambali was arrested by the Opsnal Team of the Tenayan Raya Police after becoming a fugitive for pawning a rental car.

This case occurred on Wednesday (28/02/2024) when Ipda Dhani rented a car from a rental owner for Rp. 15 million per month. However, since May 2024, Dhani suddenly disappeared and the whereabouts of the All New Fortuner car he rented were unclear.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tenayan Raya Police, Iptu Dodi Vivino, said that due to this alleged embezzlement, the victim was harmed by around Rp. 450 million. The car owner then reported the case to the Tenayan Raya Police and the perpetrator was finally arrested on Sunday (27/1/2025).

"It turned out that the car had been pawned to a resident named Buyung for Rp. 100 million. Toyota Fortuner's car, he rented it per month. Suddenly in the third month there was no news, looking for no meeting or disappearance," said Iptu Dodi last Thursday.

Feeling disadvantaged, the car owner immediately reported the incident to the Tenayan Raya Police. "Because we disappeared, we made it a DPO (wanted list). At that time he was still serving in Dumai but now the information is PTDH (disrespectful dismissal)," explained Dodi.

Currently, the perpetrator has been detained and placed in the Pekanbaru Police detention room and is waiting for the preparation for stage 1. "The investigation is currently in stage 1. It is still in the filing process and will soon be transferred to the Prosecutor's Office," said Dodi.

Meanwhile, the victim's car is currently still controlled by the pawn recipient. The status of the pawn recipient is currently as a witness.

In the case of alleged embezzlement of rental cars, Dhani was charged with Article 372 or Article 378 of the Criminal Code on Fraud or Embezzlement with a threat of four years in prison.
