Landslide In Illegal Gold Mine, One Miner Dies In Bone Bolango

BONE - A resident died as a result of being buried by landslides in a people's gold mining area in East Tulabolo Village, Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province.

Head of the Bone Bolango Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Ahmad Fahri, said the landslide incident occurred on February 15, 2025 at around 21.30 WITA at the location of the drill point 18. "In that incident, one miner with the initials IU reportedly died due to being buried by landslides," said Iptu Ahmad as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 19.

When a search was carried out independently by local residents, the victim was found dead and immediately evacuated to be handed over to the family.

In recent weeks, the unlicensed mining area has often rained, so there is the potential for landslides. In addition, around the location there are many gold mining holes being processed by the community, which further increase the risk of accidents.

To anticipate similar incidents, the police have temporarily closed mining activities in the area. In addition to endangering the safety of residents, this mining activity is also considered illegal.

This temporary closure was carried out because mining activities at the location did not have standard operating procedures that regulate workers' safety.

"To avoid further casualties, we have temporarily closed activities in this mining area," said Iptu Ahmad.
