The problem of waste in a number of areas using the open dumping method is a special concern for various parties, especially the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to members of the DPR RI.
This is because the open dumping method is considered to have a negative impact on the environment, ranging from air pollution, groundwater to damage to ecosystems in the surrounding environment.
Deputy Chairman of Commission XII, Bambang Haryadi requested that the Ministry of Environment (KLH) issue a policy regarding circulars to the Regional Government (Pemda) regarding the management of Final Processing Places (TPA) which still use the open dumping method.
Bambang said that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry must also synergize with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in waste management.
According to him, waste that has been considered worthless can actually become a source of energy if managed properly.
"In other countries, waste has been used as a source of energy so that there is economic value. We should synergize waste with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, because both of them have close ties to the environment," Bambang said in his statement, Thursday, February 6.

According to Bambang, the waste sorting system must be strengthened so that people are used to sorting waste from the start.
"We can start from small things, such as providing separate trash bins and collaborating with business entities such as waste banks. Waste that has economic value can be converted into incentives, such as money or electricity," he said.
Bambang also invited the Regional Government to be more assertive in managing waste and supporting the efforts made by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry not to use open dumping.
In addition, Commission XII of the DPR RI also appreciated the 100 working days of the Ministry of Environment or the Environmental Control Agency led by Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
"Love the environment, because our environment is for us and refers to us. When our environment is damaged, our children and grandchildren will get the impact," he said.
Meanwhile, member of Commission XII of the DPR RI from the PKB faction, Ratna Juwita, assessed that the Central Government must also intervene in supporting the Regional Government. He highlighted the limitations of the Regional Budget which is often an obstacle in waste management.
"We cannot fully burden this to the Regional Government, because they have budget constraints and other priority programs. The Central Government must initiate the implementation of the latest technology for waste management in the regions," he said.
He also suggested that the government open up opportunities for cooperation with the private sector through the corporate social responsibility program (CSR) to help finance waste management.
Regarding the closure of several TPAs that still use an open dumping system, Ratna supports these efforts but must be accompanied by a clear solution for the community.
"If the TPA is closed, how will the waste management be? Don't let it make it difficult for the community. There must be a better alternative management," he explained.
Ratna also encouraged KLH to make areas that have successfully managed waste into energy as an example for other regions.
"The Central Government can make areas that have succeeded in managing waste as a pilot project. With the support of technology and innovation, this success can be applied in other regions," he said.
