Requesting DPR Support Regarding Human Rights Law Revision, Minister Pigai Values No Longer Accommodating

JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai asked for the support of the Indonesian House of Representatives in drafting the revision of Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights or Human Rights which is one of the current programs of the Ministry of Human Rights under his leadership.

"Submitting our request letter that the revision of the Human Rights Law is very important, the urgency is important, we hope that the leadership of the DPR can support it," Pigai said at a joint working meeting with Commission XIII of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the law, which was issued in 1999, was no longer accommodating the times, requiring updates to the human rights sector.

"The revision of the Human Rights Law is the main law that includes all agencies, all Indonesians, which, actually since 1999 until now, has not been appropriate for 25 years," he said.

Pigai said the Ministry of Human Rights had prepared materials for the preparation of the revision of the Human Rights Law and would also follow directions from the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra.

"So that we ourselves act as leaders from the government side because we are the leadership and secretariat, we have prepared everything needed, including proposing administrative support to the leadership of the DPR," he said.

He then said, "We ask the leadership of the DPR to pay attention not only to its preparation but to its administrative support."

Since he was inaugurated by the president, he said that his party had compiled a Ministry of Human Rights program oriented towards achieving the Astacita program of President Prabowo Subianto's administration.

"We have to formulate a policy of laws and regulations, one of which is that we have conveyed to the DPR the honorable revision of the Human Rights Law which has never been seriously conveyed," he said.
