Police Hunt Parents Throwing Babies Into Irrigation Channels In Sukabumi

SUKABUMI - Sukabumi Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim), Sukabumi City Resort, is hunting for parents who are suspected of having thrown their newborns into an irrigation canal in Babakanjampang Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java.

Sukabumi Police Chief, Iptu Riki Saputra, revealed that the baby's body was first found by residents who wanted to repair the water channel on Sunday afternoon before sunset.

"This baby's body was found in an irrigation canal in RT 19/07, Sukajaya Village, Sukabumi District. When found, the baby boy's condition was face down and had rotted," Riki said, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, February 3.

After receiving the report, Sukabumi Police personnel together with the Sukabumi City Police Satreskrim team immediately went to the location to conduct a crime scene (TKP), asked residents for information, and evacuated the bodies of the suspected baby who had only been born a few days.

Based on witness testimony, three days before the discovery of the baby, residents had seen a white Suzuki Ertiga car parked around the location last Thursday. A passenger got out of the car and threw something into the irrigation canal.

Allegedly, the object that was thrown away was the poor baby. However, it is not yet known whether the baby was still alive when he was dumped or had died.

For the purposes of the investigation, the baby's body has been taken to R. Syamsudin Hospital, SH, Sukabumi City, for further examination to determine the cause of death.

"If you look at the condition, the baby is estimated to have died for three days. However, we are still investigating the motive for throwing this baby away. It is suspected that the baby is the result of an out-of-wed relationship," added Riki.

The police are currently coordinating with the Sukabumi City Police Satreskrim to speed up the investigation process. It is hoped that the perpetrators of the dumping of babies can be immediately arrested and held accountable for their actions.
