JAKARTA - Emergency response officers or SAR teams in Japan have begun to build access into the giant hole in Yasio, Tokyo. The hole has swallowed a truck and the driver is a 74-year-old man.
The giant hole loop continued to expand from 5 meters to 40 meters on Friday 31 January. Its current width is estimated along the Olympic swimming pool.
"This is a very dangerous condition," Yasio Fire Chief Tetsuji Sato told reporters on Thursday, January 30 local time, quoted from AFP.
"We plan to build slopes (to access holes) from safer places so we can send heavy equipment."
Yasio officials estimate that the cause of the enlarged hole is the result of a corrosion waste disposal pipeline.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the diameter of the giant hole is caused by the leaking groundwater in it.

Since the emergence of the giant hole on Tuesday this week, the truck driver who was the victim has not been found. The soil and debris covered the top of the truck.
At the location, dozens of SAR teams have been struggling to handle it since the incident. The handling operation was exacerbated by the inside wall of the hole which is now about 10 meters deep and further eroded. This condition caused the SAR Team not to be in the giant hole for too long.
Authorities have appealed to Yasio residents in North Tokyo, totaling around 1.2 jut, to reduce the use of groundwater in household needs to prevent waste leakage that has the potential to complicate the SAR Team's operations.
