TNI Recruitment Must Be Fair, Commander Reminds His Staff Not To Be Careless

JAKARTA TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto emphasized that his staff should not interfere in the process of accepting TNI members, especially in an effort to include their own children or relatives.

"We just let our child run according to the criteria. Do not let parents interfere in the selection process," Agus said at the TNI Leadership Meeting, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 31.

Agus emphasized that anyone who wants to join the TNI, either through the Tamtama, NCO, or the Military Academy, must prepare themselves carefully to face selection. The intervention of certain parties, according to him, can actually harm the prospective soldier himself.

"Later he will not develop. If it is only accepted without readiness, maybe he can become a lieutenant, but does not have a real leadership spirit," he said.

Agus also reminded officers not to force their children to enter the same unit as them. Placement must be based on the results of psychological tests and the interests of each individual.

"There is no rule that requires children to follow in the footsteps of their parents in one particular dimension. For example, parents from the Army, their children may enter the Air Force or even the police. Everything must be adjusted to their abilities and interests," said Agus.

He believes that with a transparent and professional recruitment system, the TNI will get soldiers with the best quality human resources (HR).
