The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police has uncovered a fraud case that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to trick its victims. In fact, in carrying out the action, the perpetrator took the name of a state official.
"We managed to reveal the disclosure of this deepfake case quickly, where we have secured the perpetrators," said the Director of Cyber Crime at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, to reporters quoted on Thursday, January 23.
The perpetrator's fraud was carried out through one of the social media platforms. However, it was not clearly conveyed about the identity and method of the perpetrator tricking the victim.
So far, Himawan has only conveyed that the arrest of the perpetrators was carried out in the Lampung area.
"The arrest of the perpetrator was carried out by the Dittipidsiber Bareskrim team in the Central Lampung area," he said.
Regarding the complete series of disclosures of the AI mode fraud case, said Himawan, it will be submitted in full this afternoon. Investigators are still investigating several things related to the case.
