Residents-Santri Repair Damaged Road Access Due To Marapi Lavat Flood

LUBUK BASUNG - Dozens of residents and students in Jorong Cangkiang, Nagari Batu Taba, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, worked together to repair road access on the banks of Batang Aia Katiak River which was damaged by the cold lava flood of Mount Marapi.

This area is one of the locations affected by the cold lava flood that occurred in May 2024 and is still affected by flooding on a small scale to date

"At that time, the road access was completely cut off before it was finally repaired. We together with the mutual cooperation boarding school students made new road access," said one of Rizal Mangkuto's residents, Antara, Sunday, January 19.

In this area, a boarding school inTENDING Tahfiz is very close to the Batang Aia Katiak river. On May 11, 2024, this boarding school was severely affected by the cold lava flood.

Gotong royong is done manually by digging to divert the river's water discharge so that it does not directly hit the cliff near the pesantren.

In addition, residents also stemmed river cliffs by filling sacks using sand as a barrier to the current.

Jorong Mayor or Head of Cangkiang Hamlet Rozi Fefori who leads mutual cooperation said road access in the form of land must be repaired in order to prevent further damage.

The road access that was repaired was in front of the Dahunru Tahfiz Islamic Boarding School. The condition collapsed on the side so that four-wheeled vehicles were difficult to reach the location.

"The road collapsed because it was located on the edge of the river. We have to repair it so that access or activities of the students are not disturbed," said Rozi.

He reminded residents and students to remain alert to potential disasters given the high rainfall in recent times.
