Viral Trotoars Become VIP Parking At Wolter Monginsi In South Jakarta, Satpol PP Reminds Restaurants To Create Parking Fields

JAKARTA - Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Satriadi Gunawan reminded restaurant entrepreneurs to be responsible for providing parking spaces specifically for visitors.

This was revealed after the use of sidewalks on Wolter Mongonsidi Street, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, became a public highlighted VIP parking lot.

"Restaurants are required to provide sufficient land or parking bags to accommodate visitor vehicles," said Satriadi in his statement, Sunday, January 19.

Satriadi emphasized the obligation to provide parking lots by business actors to prevent vehicles parked on sidewalks and shoulder roads that can disrupt pedestrians and traffic flow.

"The sidewalk is not a parking lot, but is intended for pedestrians in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order," said Satriadi.

Apart from entrepreneurs, restaurant visitors are also reminded not to park their vehicles on the sidewalk. Parking carelessly not only violates the rules, but also disturbs the comfort and safety of the community.

"Residents need to understand that parking a vehicle on the sidewalk is a violation of the Regional Regulation which also takes pedestrian rights," he said.

Previously, the Pedestrian Coalition uploaded a video of the condition of the sidewalk in front of RM Sinar Mandala and Tobak Korean Restaurant on Jalan Wolter Mongonsidi.

On the front sidewalk of the restaurant, there is a VIP parking post that blocks pedestrian access and the Guiding block. Parked also are cars of restaurant visitors blocking the pedestrian path. Thus, pedestrians are forced to use the side of the road to pass.

"Wother Mongsidi area should be on the side of pedestrians, but in this video, it turns out that the dominance of on-street parking (read: parking on the sidewalk) actually looks familiar, especially in culinary areas, so this ordinary thing becomes accustomed and customary," wrote the legislator coalition's Instagram account.

"The arrogance of these two restaurants is a bad example of how easily the rights of pedestrians are seized, and even worse this is an omission from the @dishubdkijakarta apparatus @sudinhub_jaksel @satpolpp.dki @satpolppjaksel," he continued.
