JAKARTA – The General Chairperson of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun, emphasized that the future of the Indonesian press is highly dependent on the courage to innovate and strategic partnerships. This commitment was demonstrated through the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Central PWI and Sahid University Jakarta on Friday, January 17, 2025, in Jakarta.
“This collaboration is not just a formality, but a real step to create a new generation of journalists who are not only competent, but also resilient in facing the flow of digital change. The press needs fresh blood with modern expertise, and this is where the important role of the academic world lies,” said Hendry Ch Bangun in his remarks.
The event, which took place at the Auditorium of the Sahid University Campus in Jakarta, was also attended by the Chancellor of Sahid University, Prof. Dr. Giyatmi, and a number of high-ranking officials of both institutions, including the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences (Fikom) of Sahid University, Prof. Dr. Mirza Ronda, Deputy Dean of Fikom Drs. Arry Rahayuniantoro, PR Coordinator Dr. Rahtika Diana, Secretary General of the Central PWI, Iqbal Irsyad, Head of Education for the Central PWI, Dr. Suprapto and Head of the PWI Central Anti-Hoax Task Force Dr. Budi Nugraha. This collaboration includes the development of a digital-based journalism curriculum, journalist training, and joint research in the field of communication.
Prof. Giyatmi called this collaboration a great opportunity for students to be directly involved in journalistic practice. "We want students to not only understand the theory, but also have real experience in the field, especially in an era when the media is facing serious challenges from disinformation," he said.
This collaboration was also marked by Hendry Ch Bangun's public lecture on the Challenges and Opportunities of the Indonesian Press. He highlighted the threat of hoaxes and social media algorithms that often trigger polarization in society.
"If journalists do not adapt, we will be defeated by technology. Collaboration with the world of education is a long-term investment to fight that," said Hendry.
