Budi Gunawan Invites KPK To Handle TIP Issues And Forest Fires

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan intends to maximize the function of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). This institution will be involved in efforts to handle criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) to handling forest fires.

This was conveyed by Budi after an audience between the KPK and the Kemnko Polkam on Thursday, January 16. The meeting discussed a number of things, including strengthening coordination and cooperation to support government policies in improving people's welfare and justice.

"The KPK in the future will also be involved in handling criminal acts of trafficking in persons and handling forest fires," Budi said as quoted from an official statement issued by the KPK, Friday, January 17.

Budi said that the KPK had been involved in the desk for prevention and improvement of governance formed by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. However, he wants the work of this institution to be wider so that the existing problems can be resolved immediately.

"With this desk, the KPK will be more integrated in efforts to overcome strategic problems in Indonesia," said the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

Meanwhile, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto said that his party was ready to coordinate with the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. He believes this step can be a way to eradicate corruption.

Moreover, this meeting also discussed the importance of transparency, risk-based supervision to prevent budget leakage to education and anti-corruption campaigns as part of a preventive strategy.

Then talks on the use of technology and digitization were also carried out. Thus, in the future connectivity between the KPK, ministries, and local governments can be carried out.

"We hope that the coordination and cooperation that exists will create a good synergy between the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the KPK. I am sure that with good coordination and cooperation, the goal of eradicating corruption through prevention and prosecution can be achieved optimally," he said.

The meeting was attended by Fitroh Rochahyanto, Agus Joko Pramono, and Ibnu Basuki Widodo as Deputy Chair of the KPK. Also present were KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Rudi Setiawan, KPK Monitoring Director Aida Ratna Zulaiha, and KPK Information Management Director Riki Arif Gunawan and ranks within the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
