PONTIANAK - The Kubu Raya Police Satreskrim named a truck driver from North Pontianak, Junaidi (55), as a suspect in a fatal accident at the Brimob intersection, Jalan Mayor Alianyang, Sungai Raya District on Thursday, January 9.

"In addition to being charged with traffic accidents, Junaidi was also named a suspect in the illegal logging case because he was caught transporting 204 logs of bought wood without valid documents," said Head of Subsidy for Penmas Aiptu Ade in Sungai Raya, Antara, Wednesday, January 15.

Ade explained that Junaidi violated Law Number 18 of 2013 concerning Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction.

"Junaidi was named a suspect in the crime of individuals who deliberately transport, control, or have forest products without a valid certificate," he said.

The police found 204 logs of various sizes in a truck numbered KB 8875 DB driven by Junaidi. The wood is known to come from Ketapang Regency. When asked to show official documents related to the transportation of wood, Junaidi could not provide it.

The Kubu Raya Police have confiscated a truck and 204 logs as evidence. "We have secured the wood and the truck for further investigation," said Ade.

In addition, investigators are still investigating the source of the wood and the purpose of its delivery. "We are investigating where the wood was obtained, whether there was any involvement of other parties, and whether the wood was an order," he added.

Junaidi is now charged with Article 83 paragraph (1) letter b of Law Number 18 of 2013 which has been amended through Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation. The threat of punishment for this crime is imprisonment and/or large fines.
