Police Delegate Case Of Suspect Ivan Sugianto Bully High School Student To Surabaya Prosecutor

JAKARTA - The Surabaya Police have transferred the case of bullying of high school students with the main suspect Ivan Sugianto to the Surabaya District Attorney.

Head of Public Relations of the Surabaya Police, AKPRina Shanty, said Ivan Sugianto had been named the main suspect in the case with P21 status.

"Ivan Sugianto, whom we have detained as a child bullying actor at Gloria Surabaya High School, has been handed over to the Surabaya District Attorney. The file status is P21, meaning that it is complete and ready for trial," said Rina as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 13.

Rina explained that with the delegation of the case to the prosecutor's office, now all attention is focused on the trial process which will determine the fate of Ivan Sugianto's law.

The Surabaya District Attorney also confirmed that he would follow up on the case in accordance with applicable procedures.

"Law enforcement in this case is a clear example that bullying will not be tolerated. We hope that the trial process can provide justice for victims," he said.

Rina also appealed to the public, especially parents and the school, to jointly fight bullying that occurs in the educational environment.

"We hope that this case will be an important lesson for all parties to create a safe and conducive school environment," he said.

This bullying case stems from a video containing an argument between an adult man and a school child that lasts one minute and four seconds viral on social media.

In the video, a man in a white shirt (Ivan Sugianto) can be seen punishing a child in a gray white shirt to prostrate while cursing like a dog.

Then, the police arrested Ivan Sugianto while at Surabaya Juanda International Airport after returning from Jakarta on Thursday (14/11/2024) afternoon.

The Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Kombes Dirmanto, said that the arrest of Ivan was made after investigators conducted a case against the case.

In fact, there were about 11 witnesses who were examined in connection with the bullying case. As a result of the witness examination, the investigator then carried out the case title process and stated that Ivan Sugianto was named a suspect.
