JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division (Divre) I North Sumatra appealed to passengers not to worry about the spread of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) virus that has been recorded as entering Indonesia.
Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Divre I North Sumatra, Anwar Solikhin, in his official statement in Medan, Sunday, emphasized that his party always prioritizes passenger safety and follows the guidelines set by the government.
To support passenger health, KAI Divre I North Sumatra has provided four health posts spread across several main stations, namely Medan Station, Tebing Tinggi, Kisaran, and Rantau Prapat. In addition, KAI also has health clinics around stations such as the Binjai Health Clinic and the Siantar Health Clinic, which are ready to serve passengers who want to do health checks.
As part of prevention measures, KAI ensures that every day before the train operates, both exterior and interior of the train will be cleaned using cleaning materials that effectively kill germs. The fumigation process is also carried out on every train series to maintain the cleanliness and health of passengers.

Even though the HMPV virus has entered Indonesia, Anwar Solikhin emphasized that the current rail travel policy has not changed. Until now, the government has not issued new rules regarding the conditions for train travel. Therefore, the applicable procedures remain as before.
Passengers are currently only required to show a boarding pass ticket that is in accordance with their identity and travel destinations. There is no obligation to show the results of a medical test or vaccine certificate, and the use of masks is also not mandatory. However, if there are passengers who feel unwell, it is advisable to do a health check before boarding the train and wearing a mask during the trip.
If during the passenger journey they feel unwell, they are asked to immediately contact the officer so that they can be directed to get further medical examinations.
KAI Divre I North Sumatra is ready to support all new policies from the government regarding rail travel regulations, along with joint efforts to deal with the HMPV virus and maintain public health.
