The Trend Of Dengue Fever Cases In East Java Soared, Kadinkes Warned

The trend of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in East Java increased from the end of 2024 to early 2025. This was revealed by the Head of the East Java Provincial Health Office, Erwin Astha Triyono.

Erwin in Surabaya, Saturday, said that in Semester I in 2024 the number of dengue cases reached 21,959 cases and in Semester II it was 7,537 cases.

"So we have to anticipate an increase in dengue cases from the end of 2024 to the beginning of 2025. This dengue case attacks all age groups, adults, and children with the highest death rate occurring in children," he said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, January 11.

For this reason, he appealed to the public to re-enact the Mosquito Nest Eradication Movement (PSN) to prevent the spread of dengue disease.

By reactivating the PSN movement, it is hoped that community participation and empowerment to eradicate dengue fever can be increased.

His role can be done by conducting inspections, monitoring, eradicating dengue mosquito larvae which are the main sources of spread by involving all family members.

PSN activities can be carried out with 3M Plus, namely first by draining or cleaning water reservoirs such as baths, flower vas, pet drinking areas, dispenser settings. The second is by closing the water reservoir (TPA) meeting.

For information, the vectors that cause dengue infection are the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which are characteristic of longing for eggs - larvae - pupa aedes are in water-filled places where the walls do not come directly into contact with the ground. If the TPA is not possible to be drained or closed, then larvae can be given.

"The third step is to get rid of or utilize and recycle used goods such as used tires, plastic bottles, used cans. And, the most important Plus is to avoid mosquito bites," he said.

Meanwhile, to avoid mosquito bites, you can use mosquito nets, anti-dUGs, raise larvae, sprinkle larvae, and install egg traps (ovitrap), larvae traps (larvitrap) and mosquito traps (mosquitotrap). In fact, it can be done by processing mosquito expulsion plants such as sereh,zodia and so on.

In addition to the Socialization of PSN 3M Plus, other efforts that are also popular in society are fogging or absorption techniques. Fogging aims to kill adult mosquitoes that are carried out when transmission occurs in an area.

Erwin further reminded that fogging is not the main step in eradicating mosquitoes. The implementation of fogging must be carried out in line with PSN regularly in an environment for effective and maximum results.

He emphasized that efforts to eradicate dengue cannot be done alone. The participation of the entire community who also collaborates with RT/RW, TP-PKK to Karang Taruna is needed to promote the PSN Movement to their homes.

As an effort to prevent and control dengue disease, the East Java Provincial Government has made various efforts. Among them are by issuing a Circular Letter of the Governor of East Java dated June 24, 2024 regarding Preparedness for an Increase in Cases and Deaths due to Dengue Disease (DHF).

In addition, the East Java Health Office has also issued Circular Number 400.7/16383/102.3/2024 to the district/city Health Office regarding the Alertness of Rainy Season Diseases to be submitted to all regional health service facilities in the East Java region.
