2,736 Indonesian Peacekeepers Spread In 8 UN Missions, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Real Evidence In Accordance With Constitutional Mandate

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said that the trust of more than 2,700 peacekeepers from Indonesia by the United Nations is clear evidence that Indonesia is in accordance with the constitutional mandate.

World order and peace are mentioned in the Opening of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. In the fourth paragraph of preambule it is stated, "And participate in implementing world order based on independence, eternal peace and social justice".

Foreign Minister Sugiono said the tradition of sending Indonesian sons and daughters as part of the UN peacekeeping mission (UN peacekeepers) is clear evidence of Indonesia's influence and efforts as a global balancing force, in accordance with the mandate of the Constitution.

"Let me express my pride and gratitude, thank you all Indonesian people, for the struggle and service of Indonesian peacekeepers spread throughout the world," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister in an Annual Press Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (PPTM) held at the Nusantara Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta January 10

Foreign Minister Sugiono explained that currently Indonesia is the contributor to the fifth largest UN peacekeeping mission force in the world.

Indonesia, he continued, sent 2,736 peacekeeping personnel spread across eight UN missions around the world.

"We would like to thank you for your struggle, for your sacrifice, for your death, and hope that all these missions can return to their homeland after completing their duties in good, safe and healthy condition, so that they can gather with their families," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

In this year's PPTM, Foreign Minister Sugiono also said, if it was decided by the UN Security Council, Indonesia would be ready to send peacekeeping troops to Palestine.
