Old Age Is The AGO's Reason For Not Holding The Gumilang Panji In Prison

The Attorney General's Office (AGO) revealed the reasons behind the absence of Panji Gumilang in iron bars after being transferred to the Indramyu District Attorney regarding the money laundering case (TPPU). One of them is because he is old.

The prosecutor is known to have only decided to make Panji Gumilang a city prisoner for the next 20 days while waiting for the trial process.

"The reason for the prosecutor so that he detained the city is that he is old," said Head of the AGO, Harli Siregar, to VOI, Tuesday, December 10.

In addition to age reasons, the prosecutor also has other considerations, namely Panju Gumilang is still actively managing pesantren. So, with this, it was decided that the money laundering offense suspect was only a city prisoner.

"In this case, although investigators did not make arrests. However, the public prosecutor detained him by holding the city," said Harli.

The city prisoner is a detention status that allows a defendant or suspect to stay in the city of his residence, not in a state detention center.

Then, hold the city also has several provisions, including, that they are not allowed to travel outside the city, must report weekly, and must be ready to be presented at the trial at any time.

Meanwhile, the city's detention of Panji Gumilang starts from December 9, 2024 to December 28, 2024.

With this detention, the prosecutor will immediately prepare an indictment for Panji Gumilang. Thus, the leader of the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School can be tried immediately.

"The West Java High Prosecutor's Team and the Indramayu District Attorney's Team will immediately prepare an indictment," said Harli.

In this case, Panji Gumilang was charged with Article 70 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 5 of Law Number 16 of 2001 concerning Foundations as amended by Law Number 28 of 2004 concerning Amendments to Law Number 16 of 2001 concerning Foundations and Article 3 of Law Number 8 of 2010 concerning Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering.
