Anies Appreciates Police Arresting Perpetrators Of Threats To Himself, Asks To Be Legally Processed

JAKARTA - Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan appreciated the performance of the National Police who succeeded in arresting the perpetrators of threats of shooting him.

"We express our gratitude and appreciation to the National Police Chief and the National Police so that this election can run in a conducive and peaceful manner," Anies said in a written statement reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 13.

Anies said the quick and decisive steps taken by the National Police were a form of commitment from the security institution to ensure a safe and peaceful election.

"This is important, because the protection of freedom of expression applies to all and to all. Not only to the presidential or public officials, but to all the people," said Anies.

Anies asked that the perpetrators of threatening the murder of him be punished in accordance with applicable regulations, as well as prioritizing the principles of justice and proportionality.

"Hopefully the perpetrators can still be trained and realized that what he wrote could be dangerous and sent the wrong message to the public," he said.

The perpetrators of threatening the shooting of Anies Baswedan who was conveyed through social media have been arrested by the East Java Regional Police in Ambulu District, Jember, East Java. The perpetrators were then taken to Surabaya to undergo legal proceedings.
