Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Reminds Ulama And Umara To Take Care Of The Ummah

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin reminded the ulama and umara or leaders in Indonesia to be responsible for maintaining, strengthening, and uniting the people to create a strong nation.

"The first is to take care of the Ummah. To protect this Ummah according to Allah's orders. For every Muslim. Take care of yourself and your family from the fires of Hell. Now, for scholars and leaders, they have responsibilities not only for those two things, but also for protecting the Ummah," said the Vice President during a gathering with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), and Bank Muamalat Indonesia, reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 17.

The vice president asked the ulama and leaders to protect all people from deviant beliefs, deviant thoughts, negligent and excessive understanding, so as not to consume non-halal food and drinks.

"Therefore, it is the responsibility of the Ulema Council (MUI) how to carry out halal certification," he added.

Second, regarding the strengthening of the people, Vice President Ma'ruf conveyed the responsibility for strengthening the people, especially in the fields of economy and education.

According to him, the MUI has held a congress for the economic empowerment of the people by presenting Islamic boarding schools and entrepreneurs to be replicated and developed.

"We are reminded not to leave children who are weak, weak in education, weak in the economy, including weak in faith. We will leave a weak creed later on, we will inherit a destroyed generation," he said.

Third, the Vice President advised that efforts to unite the people are the responsibility of the ulama and leaders. This responsibility is heavier than maintaining and strengthening the people. Efforts to unite the people must return to the khitah or foundation, he stressed.

So far, according to him, MUI has implemented various foundations in uniting the ummah, including the commonality of thinking in tolerant of differences that do not deviate in principle as well as coordinating the movement for the unification of the ummah.
