Synergy, KPK Help AGO Arrest Fugitive Corruption Deni Gumelar

The Directorate of Coordination and Supervision of Region II of the KPK together with the West Java High Prosecutor's Joint team has arrested the People Wanted List (DPO) on behalf of Deni Gumelar (red vest) on Thursday 9 December (HO-Humas KPK)

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) assisted the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) on Thursday in arresting fugitive Deni Gumelar in the corruption case that cost the state Rp18,572,700,646. This is a synergistic step taken by the two law enforcement agencies in eradicating corruption.

Deni Gumelar is a convict in a corruption case in the construction project of the Full Activation Bentonite Factory at a Regional Agribusiness and Mining Company in West Java in 2000/2001 which caused a loss to state finances of Rp. 18,572,700,646.

Acting KPK Spokesman Ali Fikri in his statement in Jakarta, Thursday, said the Directorate of Coordination and Supervision of Region II KPK together with the Joint Team of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office had arrested a wanted list of people (DPO) on behalf of Deni Gumelar. "Those who were found guilty were based on the decision of the Supreme Court Number: 1132 K/PID/2005 dated October 14, 2005 which has permanent legal force," said Ali.

Ali said on Thursday at around 09.00 WIB, the team received information and then moved to spy on the whereabouts of the DPO who came from Malang, East Java, by train and was eventually arrested on his way to Soreang, Bandung Regency. "Furthermore, it was secured at the West Java High Prosecutor's Office for execution at the Kebon Waru Rutan, Bandung City," he said.

In the Supreme Court's decision, said Ali, Deni Gumelar was declared legally and convincingly proven guilty of corruption and was sentenced to 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 50 million and a replacement money of Rp. 8,445,931,364.

Previously, the KPK facilitated the search for the DPO through a coordination meeting with the West Java High Prosecutor's Office since April 15, 2021. "The arrest of the DPO is a form of continuous synergy between the KPK and other law enforcement officers in an effort to resolve the handling of corruption cases," said Ali.
