Extreme Weather, Mataram Residents Are Urged To Beware Of Diarrhea And Ispa

MATARAM - The people of Mataram and its surroundings are advised to be alert to diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infections (ARI), which are the impact of extreme weather in the rainy season.

"These two types of disease need to be watched out for, especially when there are inundations, tidal flooding, and even residents being evacuated," said Mataram City Regional General Hospital (RSUD) president director Ketut Eka Nurhayati in Mataram, Monday, December 6.

In addition to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), these two diseases (diarrhea and ARI) often attack, especially children, in the transition season because of the amount of dust and lack of clean water.

"Children are vulnerable to the disease. Moreover, if there are residents who have been evacuated and live in temporary tents, the children will be collected and sleep on the floor," he said as quoted by Antara. His party appealed to the public when experiencing symptoms of diarrhea and ISPA immediately report or come to the nearest health facility (faskes).

"The public should not be afraid of being infected with COVID-19, right, because the medical team works according to the existing standard operating procedures (SOP). If it is purely Ispa, we will still call it Ispa. So don't be afraid to seek treatment," he said.

On the other hand, the Mataram Hospital has also dispatched a public safety center (PSC) team to patrol and monitor the conditions of residents affected by extreme weather, either due to overflowing rivers, canals or tidal flooding.

The PSC team of the Mataram Hospital, which is part of the hydrometry disaster management task force, provided evacuation assistance and medical health services at the disaster site.

"If further treatment is needed, the patient will be referred to the Mataram Hospital," he said.
