Alert, BMKG Reminds Potential Extreme Weather In The Next Week
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in almost all provinces in the next week.
"The BMKG monitors the development of weather conditions throughout Indonesia, where it is currently indicated that there is a significant potential for atmospheric dynamics that could have an impact on increasing rainfall in several parts of Indonesia," said Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto in a written statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Sunday, October 31st.
Guswanto explained that the results of the analysis of the current dynamics of the atmosphere show the potential for wind bends and decelerations that can increase the convective pattern.
The active phenomenon of MJO, Rossby Wave, and Kelvin Wave can increase the potential for rain cloud growth in several parts of Indonesia in the next few days.
Based on these conditions, the BMKG predicts the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall that can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds for the period from 31 October to 06 November 2021 to occur in a number of areas.
The areas with the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Island, Jambi, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Island, Lampung.
Then, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan.
Then, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

Meanwhile, for the next three-day period from October 31 to November 01, 2021, based on impact-based weather forecasts, areas with the potential for flooding and flash floods with the alert category are Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.
Therefore, Guswanto invites all levels of society to prepare themselves as an effort to mitigate the potential impact of hydrometeorological phenomena.
"Ensuring infrastructure capacity and water resource management systems are ready to anticipate increased rainfall. Conduct environmental management by not littering, not cutting slopes or cutting trees uncontrollably," he said.
Then, trim the branches and twigs of fragile trees, and strengthen the stands/poles so they don't collapse in the strong winds. More intensified coordination, synergy, and communication between related parties for hydrometeorological disaster preparedness anticipation.
"Continue to monitor information on weather developments and early warnings for extreme weather from the BMKG, in more detail and detail for each sub-district throughout Indonesia through the BMKG website," he said.
