According to APF Fact Check, the image is of an Iranian man moments before he was executed in 2007 for killing a local judge.
Furthermore, an image search was also carried out via Yandex and showed that the man in the photo is Majid Kavousifar who appeared in the news about the public hanging, which took place in Tehran on August 2, 2007.
According to an AFP report, cited by turnbackhoax, Kavousifar and family members of Hossein Kavousifer were hanged for killing Hassan Moghaddas, an Iranian top judge, in 2005.
"A similar image was also used as a hoax in 2019, images of the same person circulated in Indonesia along with claims that he was an Algerian hacker who was executed for stealing money from an Israeli bank," wrote turnbackhoax.
"Thus, the claim of a picture of a man getting the death penalty after preaching the Bible in Syria is a hoax with misleading content categories," it said.
