Yogyakarta To Send Gumaton Team To Anticipate Crowd In Malioboro

YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government plans to deploy the Gumaton Team to conduct random checks on tourists regarding vaccination as well as anticipate potential crowds in the Malioboro area on weekends.

"At the end of last week, the Malioboro area was packed with tourists, although in general tourism in Yogyakarta has not been fully opened. Therefore, to anticipate these conditions, we will deploy the Gumaton Team again," said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 15.

The Gumaton team is a security team in the Yogyakarta philosophy axis area, namely from the Tugu Yogyakarta area, the Malioboro area to the Yogyakarta Palace area. The team is a joint team of Yogyakarta City Satpol PP personnel assisted by police and TNI personnel.

“Random checks on tourists are aimed at ensuring that tourists who come have undergone vaccinations. And if there is a crowd, it will be brought under control," he said.

In addition, the rules regarding pedestrian paths on Jalan Malioboro pedestrians will also be re-enforced. Pedestrian on the east side only for pedestrians from north to south. While the pedestrian on the west side is for pedestrians from south to north.

"Basically, at this time Malioboro has just been opened for economic activities, but indeed many tourists come to this area for tours, even though tourism buses are not allowed to park in special parking spaces in Yogyakarta," he said.

As for the tour bus parking, Heroe will also coordinate with the Yogyakarta City Transportation Office for the arrangement.

“At the end of last week, a lot of people parked on roads around the border of Yogyakarta City. Tourists also take online vehicles to get to Malioboro," he said.

To anticipate the recurrence of this incident, Heroe also requested that a one gate system be implemented, namely asking all tourism buses to enter the Giwangan Terminal to be distributed to possible parking locations because a number of parking locations around Malioboro have not been opened for tourism buses.

"When entering Giwangan, an inspection will also be carried out to ensure tourists have been vaccinated," he said.
