Residents Start Coming To See Carrion Flowers In Cilandak, Police: Keep Your Distance So You Don't Crowd

JAKARTA - The growth of carrion flowers in the yard of Sutinem Rosidah's house (65) on Bunga Rampai Street, RT 011/03, South Cipete, Cilandak, South Jakarta has created a new problem. Residents from various regions began to visit Sutinem's residence to see this rare phenomenon.

The flower has a height of about 1 meter, with a green stem and dark red and light green petals.

According to Nova (34), Sutinem's son-in-law, the whereabouts of the corpse flower was discovered on Sunday, October 10 yesterday.

"Initially my in-laws were sweeping and then smelled the smell of carrion in the yard," Nova said when met at the location, Tuesday, October 12.

After a search, it turned out that the smell of the carcass came from around the chicken coop and the precarious pile of the yard area of the house.

Out of curiosity, Sutinem, then looked directly at the chicken coop and the pile of tiles.

"It turned out that the smell came from the flowers. The chicken coop and the pile of tiles were then removed," Nova said.

Furthermore, Nova said, the existence of the corpse flower plant was reported to the Head of RT 011. Since then, residents have come to see the plant firsthand.

"Many have come to see it's been three days," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Ahmad Saehu (50), the presence of a plant suspected of being a corpse flower has provoked many residents to come to the location. Even the growth of this rare plant has been known by the Cilandak Police.

Even so, said Ahmad, there has been no directive to build a fence around the plant. The most important thing, said Ahmad, was to ensure that the arrival of residents did not cause crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"I was called by Bhabinkamtibmas to arrange for residents to keep their distance so that there are no crowds," he said.
